Offical weight difference between 700R4 & T5

Got the car weighed before & after the swap. Looks to be about a 120lb difference.

700R4
3510lbs
-1/2 Tank of Gas
-No Amplifiers or Sub

T5
3390lbs
-1/8 Tank of Gas
-Amplifer & Sub in car. (Mabey 40lbs)

I would think the gas & the system wash each other out.

So we are probably close to 120lbs!!

I don't know about the exact weight of a 700R4 but the shipping weight of my T5 was 85 lbs. and that was with about 10 lbs. of box and packing materials, and ofcoarse without the flywheel, clutch, bellhousing and pressure plate. Which shouldn't be anymore than 40 lbs. I've got an old 700R4 laying around, I should weight it.

The difference in weight would more around 55 Ibs between the two trannys.

I can pick my 700R4 up, it's actually suprisingly light without fluid.. Maybe 80 lbs?..

Probably weighs little more then that just not sure how much.

With torque converter, flex plate, shifter, torque arm and tranny mount attached mine weighed in at 188Ibs and I believe that was with fluids also.

In comparison my t-5 weighed in at 130Ibs total with all the attaching stuff needed and no fluid.

Seems to me that the answer that the OP stated above as to the weight difference is more definitive than guessing based on fluid, attachments etc. Looks like if these weights are fairly accurate, the answer has already been provided. Gasoline is a bit lighter than water, so the actual difference may be even a bit more than 120 pounds - hard to say. Believing it is the only thing left to do.

In the above case, I would assume both trannys were installed and ready to rock since it drove to a scale? That negates the differences in fluid, clutch, attachments etc, etc.....

Now, I'd love to see the same thing done with a T56 installed to see what that difference is.

I don't know how much more definitive you need, my numbers come from actually weighing the parts needed to make it move just not in the car, that's flexplate/flywheel back. There is no way there is a 120Ibs difference between the two.

Also the t-56 is about 170Ibs complete, going off memory on this one though would have to find it in my notes to give you the real number.

Well, I've never weighed either....it would have been better if he weighed the car with the different combos in the exact configuration (same amount of gas, sound equipment etc.) both times.

I agree Tony - 120 pounds seems like a lot of difference.

The only thing about it I know for sure is a T-5 weighs in at 85 pounds without the bellhousing, flywheel, clutch and shifter. I only know that because I had one shipped in the mail. Must not weigh that much complete since I've installed mine solo more times that I want to admit. lol

Yeah the t-5 is super easy to install for one guy, wish I can say the same for the t-56, that thing is a bitch!

What really adds to a t-5 is the flywheel and pressure plate, here is a rundown of the major pieces.

T-5: 71 (no oil)
Flywheel: 22
Pressure plate/disk: 22
Bell housing: 6.5

It's super easy only -IF- it goes in the first time! I hate it when it won't engage that last 1/4" and your forced to retreat and do it over again. It gives your forearms a serious workout when you're on the floor and after about the 4th hoist...I get pretty shakey...

It's held up amazingly well, especially considering I never planned to have a boosted engine in front of it whan I got it. -But then again, I've not had good traction either so far...
