I know this has probably been addressed in previous posts but since the Archives are not working, I have to post my question.

Ok, here's the deal. About 4 years ago I bought a B&M megashifter which comes with the 5ft B&M shifter cable. Just today, on my way home from the parts store, my cable broke. After 4 years of manually shifting an automatic, it probably was the cause of the busted cable. Now I'm looking into a replacement cable.

Question is ... should I fork out the cash and buy the replacement B&M cable or will the stock GM cable work with that shifter?

Additionally, even if the GM cable does work, is it as strong and will it last as long as the B&M shifter cable?

 

the factory cable will not work with the b&m shifter. they mount up two different ways. i could be wrong but i think they cost about the same.

 

Do you think a cable that last 4 years is strong??? my GM cable is 20 years old and it still one piece. There is nothing better than the OEM.

 

That may be true but you have to realize that the B&M is a ratcheting shifter.... it's not going to be as easy on the cable as a stock shifter.

Besides that, do you manually shift your automatic? I do, EVERY time .... I never let it shift itself anymore.... it shifts too soon on it's own ..... plus the ratchet action is fun.
