Since I had missed the inspection month, the warrenty is no good. I was trying to find a buyer for it a few months ago, but they were no takers. If I was aware of the problems before it was removed I could have had rebuild. But I was not made aware of it until after they had the new transmission put in.

My orginal plan was to find a buyer, then take the car to AAMCO and have it check out. If there was any problems with it, then it would have been rebuild. So somebody could have had a new 200c pretty cheap. But there was no takers, so its water under the bridge.

I would also like to note, that the AAMCO lifetime warrenty requires that the transmission is check by AAMCO every year in the aniversery rebuild mouth. Since I didn't find a buyer back in Setember, I missed the checkup requirement back in Oct. because I had already decided to replace it. So when the new 4L60e went in last week, the lifetime warrenty on the 200c was dead!

I see a lot of people doing the shifter change out instead of converting the shifter like I did. Maybe this thread should have it name change and made into an sticky.

Bruce,
I changed the entire set-up on my son's Camaro. If the previous owner hadn't trashed the assembly and the Steering Lock Cable in our vehicle your method would have been a much better choice. Finding an early third gen shifter assembly in good condition was a problem for us. The complete changeover to the newer style isn't a big job but it's definately a more work than your modification.

Another viable alternative is the B&M MegaShifter console mount(depending upon what the owner is after) that might be the best choice for some. If we weren't after a "STOCK" look we would have selected the MegaShifter.

Sincerely,
Kurt

HI all,
I know this thread is almost a year old. But I thought an update was in order so the rest of you can see what I did. The end of the story is, the car has preform this past year with absolutly no transmission problems. The high output alternator went bad over the summer and had to be replace. I have put about 5000 miles on the car this past year.

Gas mileage on the highway has stayed around 27MPG. This really help a lot when the gas prices were up the past summer.

I have recently changed the insurancce company to Hagerty, full coverage with a declared value of $15,000. Must less then what I was paying USAA.

Update Feb 2010

Hi All,
Its been a few years since I created the post.
All is well, the Firebird still lives. It has a new home in Wilson NC.
I have not had any proglems with the transmission install except for one.
When cruising down the highway, the speedometer would bounce and cause the Electronic curise control to loose lock. So I have added in a Dakota Digita. SG-5 to the mix. The SG-5 has solve the problem with the curise control. Please see attached image for details on the wiring.
