How can I tell what axel this is on my car?
I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my car. It's a manual and when I put it into gear and start driving it sort of tends to go into a jumping motion, especially when I press the gaspedal fast or unevenly. I can actually avoid this by just pressing it with caution and gentleness.... but that doesn't exactly sit well with the fact that it's a sportscar, so I want to get it fixed.
The problem lies somewhere between the transmission and wheels. The struts are new so they are not causing this. It feels like there is play in the gears of the axel or shaft or something.
Want to start by figuring out what axel it is my car has. Think it says Borg Warner on it. Is there a way of telling from the outside? Are they different in appearance or is it just the gears inside?

That symbol on the bottom is Borg Warner. That means the diff is an Australian BW 9 bolt diff. If you look at the rear cover, it will have 9 bolts holding it on and will have a large rubber plug in it to fill. Nothing internally from the GM 10 bolt is compatable.

Yes I checked this site but much of the terms they use there are unfamiliar to me so don't really understand when it says something about posi this and gearratio 2 point something that. Plus it really doesn't give the info I want. Would like to know for what cars this 9 bolt came? Performace yes, but which more specifically? What are the "symptoms" when the gears and stuff are really getting worn in it? Can they get worn so it just causes play or do they just start grinding or skipping cogs or just stopping completely?? Knowing this would really help.
