Difference between flywheel and flexplate bolts?
Does anyone know the difference between flywheel and flexplate bolts?
Everyone says that they're different, but they don't say what the difference is. The only thing I'm missing for my swap is the flywheel bolts and no one can get them until Tuesday.
I know they're 7/16-20, but what length? Any shoulder? I have a local specialty store that I can get just about anything at. If anyone had the dimension, I'll just go get some grade 8 of that variety.
I'd like to get this in this weekend so I can have this out of the way. I still have to do axle seals and finish my air dam in two weeks, so getting this done would be great.

Dude, if you still have flywheel bolts, call me, I'll come get them and give you some beer money.

BTW, from what I can guess, flywheel bolts are longer so that's where the difference comes in.

Luckily, I found a set of Mr. Gasket ones on Sunday at a local parts store in the "Performance" section. Haha.
The labeling on the package said for GM and Ford, 7/16-20 x 31/32" long.
I also found bolts that looked really similar at a specialty hardware store, even had the short head like the flywheel bolts I picked up and were supposedly 1" long. Not sure if the extra 1/32" would make a difference, but I doubt it now.
To let everyone know, the flexplate bolts were 7/16-20 x 5/8" long and had the head that has the larger bottom like a built in washer, can't remember what to call that.
The flywheel bolts were the dimension listed above but came with star washers. Not sure how to describe them without a picture. I also used blue loctite just to make sure they didn't back out. Not sure if this is necessary for a street driven car.

sounds perfect! come to think of it I think those bolts had the star style lock washers when they came off the car.
I belive the bolt head you are describing is called "flanged bolt" or flang I'm a bad speller but, I think most know what I mean

That's exactly it, the flexplate bolts had a flanged head.
The car is on the wheels now, but I think it has to go back up and I have to bleed the clutch a little more. Seems like the clutch wants to ease out then it just grab real hard. Shouldn't happen with a stock replacement clutch.
Could be that I've never driven stick before and now I'm trying for the first time in a race car. Hahaha.

yes but, he is using a flywheel not a flex plate. not to mention that would only happen on a 2pc block/crank combo
