help with stall choice

i just ordered my built 700r4, they're sending me a new stall to go with it, around a 2800 i believe,

would this be too much for an 87 350 tpi?

"I" think 2800 is too much for a stock tpi. Others will likely disagree. Something in the 2-2200 range would be better in my opinion.

Its not so much how much power, but where the power is made that dictates what stall is needed. Along with some other factors of course. If you havnt made any gear or vehicle weight modifications theres really no reason to go any higher than a stock converter. I also think 2800 is on the high side.

the guy who i purchased the car from mentioned that he thinks that the gears are either 373 or 411, i believe they are 373s, i didn't know that made a difference in stall choice

A torque converter multiplys torque. The stall speed is just the speed where it is most efficient at doing that. When you swap to a lower gear(numerically higher), youve increased the mechanical advantage of the rearend. Thus less torque is needed to get the car moving. Therefore you can use a higher stall to in effect shift the torque curve up slightly.

so if i have 373 gears, would a 2800-3000 stall be to big for a tpi, stock
