The U-Joints would be the first thing I would check. It is more than likely one of them. If not I would be getting it up on a hoist or something and checking the rearend for play or the tail shaft on the transmission. Either way get it checked out right away as it is alot cheaper to put in a couple of U-Joints then to fix all the expensive things you'll fix if you neglect it till the drive shaft falls out. plus, I had the same thing happen when a well meaning, but ill informed mechanic changed the rear end fluid and forgot to add the limited slip additive. Makes the rear end clunk good... The broken trans mount usually makes noise when applying throttle, the noise is the torque arm / tailshaft hitting the trans tunnel. To the original poster, I second the idea of getting under the car and inspecting. When did this noise start happening? Did you do anything with the car before it started?
