10 bolt questions: 4th gen posi and axles, and misc ?s
Buddy of mine at work has got 2.** posi out of a ~94 LT1 Camaro. I pulled out my axles on my 3.08 and found that I hace the dreaded 26 splines
. So, could I get stock/aftermarket axles for a 90-92 with 28 splines to fit the carrier? Arent 90-92 and most/all 4th gens the same as far as carrier goes? I mean, I know I cant use 4th gen axles in my 3rd gen housing, but I just wanted to make sure that axles from a 90-92 would fit into a 4th gen carrier.
Another thing, why is it that everyones saying you must use a 3 series carrier when upgrading to a 3.73 gearset? What about the richmonds for the 7.625", 3.73 gears made for a 2 series carrier. Is there any negative effects of using a 2 series carrier with 3.73s (as long as the gears were made for 2 series)? Seems to me that the ring gear would be thicker, meaning possibly stronger?
PLEASE, one more thing. What exactly is the difference between the 7.5" and 7.625" 10-bolts? 7.625" from a 4th gen? If so, can the internals be swapped out between the 2, other than axles? Ive yet to find an exact answer to this question.

yes you can swap axles and use the 4th gen carrier. what you see with the richmond gears, and others maybe, is a set of gears not made to stock thickness. they're made thicker to move the ring gear into the pinion so you can run a 2 series carrier. if you have a 2 serires carrier i tihnk the smarter way to go would be to run a spacer on the ring gear so your 3 seriers gear set woukld work on either. there is no differance between a 7.5 and 7.62 ten bolt other than gm wanting to confuse all of us with the name change.
