4-speed questions
Does anybody know if the 4-speed tranny that came in the '82s (specifically behind the Iron Duke) is strong enough to handle a new GM Performance engine? Is there a bell housing available for this swap? I would like to keep my tranny when I do an engine swap (way into the future). Originally I thought about putting in an auto but decided against it because I want to keep the project as simple and cheap as possible.

It is more than likely the Saginaw 4 speed if it came with the Iron Duke.It will live for a very short period of time behind any performance motor. You can use the Lakewood bell #15015 I would think to put it behind any SBC.In all honesty I don't know much about the Iron Duke trannies..but myself I would find a better trans.I have a T10 for sale from my '82 that would be much better suited!
