Electronic speedo ?'s
I have the opportunity to buy a t5 with electronic speedo. My car has the mechanical speedo. My main concern is what year the electronic speedo was introduced, and if it is a dead giveaway for a world class transmission. (26 spline input shaft)

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
No it is not.
The electronic speedo was introduced in 1985 in Firebirds. The newer design T-5 was introduced in 1988 in these cars. The VSS in the transmission was not used in Camaro until about 89 or 90.
The cable "sleeve" and VSS are directly interchangeable. One screw with a 10mm hex head.
Go to www.5speeds.com and look at the page where they show how to tell which transmission is which.
26 splines means that at least it's from a V8 car. But it has nothing to do with which design series of T-5 it is.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....
Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The electric units were introduced in the 86 Firebirds, and used only in those that had the full gauges; the ones with the dumbas<x>s lights were still cable-driven.
The sending units are interchangeable only with the same type of trans; a T5 unit will not swap into a 700R4, and vice versa.
Since you won't need it in your Camaro, you could probably eBay it, or offer it for sale in the classifieds here.

Okay, thats good info. The trans is out of a 95 camaro with a 3.4. Would this be a wc? there is no tag, I checked. Thanks.

I thought I would update you guys. That transmission was a world class. I removed the bell housing and looked at the retainer for the countershaft. However, I want to let you know I found out the hard way that a 95 camaro v6 t5 will not work on a v8! The bolt pattern is different where the trans bolts to the bell housing.
