Has anyone managed to shoehorn one into a 3rd gen? Does it clear the tranny tunnel? What did you do for a converter and for the shift/TC control?

With the converters, I've had ATI tell me that the '91-97 tranny used the same converter as a 700r4 and it's not a problem, but everyone else keeps insisting that they are different. I'm tempted to believe ATI, but since it's one company that I trust and have dealt with before multiple times vs _everyone_ else I've talked to, I'm starting to wonder.

93-97 4L60E typically will use the same converter as a 700r4. The 4L80E is a totally different animal.

Use the stand alone TCI trans controller to contol the 80. I've done a couple swaps into LS1 cars and it isn't that bad and they're close to a thirdgen so you shouldn't have to cut too much

The later 700's with a PWM pump are the same as the 60E's but as stated, the 80's are different.

so do you think it will fit without major changes?

The TCI box/T-Com is my current top choice for controlling the thing.

Hi,
I'm in process of gathering parts to intall a 4L60e transmission into my 1982 Firebird. I have in the past few days ordered the TCI TCU controller from SummitRacing. I have compared the price of the TCU from sevral different sources and SummitRacing has the best price. FYI, the transmission controller sold by GM-Parts is repackaged TCI TCU controller.
