what 4 speed in an 82 Z28

Did the 82z come with the super T10 trans? Is it the same all aluminum one used in 80-81? I am looking at an 82 and I couldnt see underneath well enough to do an ID but the trans looked to be aluminum.

I really wouldn't know, but if you want to find out it it's aluminum take a magnet to it.

Could either be a Super T10 or a Saginaw.

Not the same as the earlier model T10s '81 and prior...only has a 27 spline output shaft (versus 32) and the tailshaft has the torque arm mount. One year only trans.

I was just gonna say, I know there's another active member with a T-10, air_adam...

hey adam, did you re-use the stock 305 flexplate when you did the 350 w/ t-10? I'm doing up a new motor, and i'm trying to figure out what i'll need to buy... 153 tooth?

oh yea, do you have a shifter for that too?

..and I quote "Did the 82z come with the super T10 trans? Is it the same all aluminum one used in 80-81?"
..and in another post " I just want to know what trans was factory installed."

I specified that 82's came with either the T10 or the saginaw factory installed. That T10 is a different trans from any other year T10 like he also asked in the ways that I stated.

I also own a factory T10 car..so I would hope I know a little on the subject.

I haven't yet installed my T10, but from what I can tell, the flywheels for the T10 and T5 are the same. I have both, and the only difference I can tell is that the flywheel thats on the 350 now (with T5 still attached) is aluminum, and the T10 flywheel is steel.

I'll be reusing my aluminum flywheel when I install the T10.

I also have the factory shifter for the T10. Its a pretty crappy shifter, lol

I know that Hurst makes a Competition Plus shifter and an install kit for both the T10 and the Saginaw 4-spd trans' in these cars. I plan to get one of those before I install it.

Really, the only reason I haven't installed my T10 yet is that I can't find an '82 torque arm around anywhere. Any '82 torque arm will work... one from either 4-spd, or an auto. I just can't find one.

thanks guys, I will be looking at the car tomorrow. This car has been messed with and is pretty much a parts car, so Air Adam if I get the car the torque arm will be for sale. I will be using the T10 in another car and wont need the torque arm.

Lengthen yours 2 1/4".

83 and up TA's are 55"..82's are 57 1/4".

I am selling Hurst shifter and trans in the classifieds.
