Installing SPEC stage 3 HELP!!

OK here is ny issue. I have a brand new 383 that I ust put it. I installed my custom flywheel with ARP bolts and toqued them down. So far so good. Then I grabed my clutch disk, "tip" bearing and preassure plate, as well as my ARP "pressure plate" bolts. I lined it all up and got ready to try and slide in the first bolt and to my amazment, they are WAY to short. The bolts can't even go throught the damn metal housing of the pressure plate.

-Where can I get the right bolts?
-How come my so called "pressure plate" bolts didn't work? (most likely cuz the housing is much thicker)
-How much do I toque them down once I have them?
-Are genric bolts bought from a hardware store gonna work allright?

Any help would help greatly, thanks

DO NOT use "generic" bolts!!!! Unless of course, you don't like your feet, and would like to do away with them.

Clutch bolts have a special "shoulder" sort of area between the head and the threads, that acts as a sort of "dowel pin" to locate the clutch on the flywheel. The shoulder goes about 1/4" down into the flywheel; it looks and works alot like a starter bolt. The threads don't begin until qbout 3/8" below the flywheel surface.

What parts are these? Is this stock-style LT1 T-56 stuff? If so, regular clutch bolts won't work, you need ones for a 93-97 LT1 T-56, which are different from any others I have ever come across.

Torque goes with hardware size; in clutches, the same as anywhere else. Correct torque for clutch bolts (3/8"-16) is usually around 35 ft-lbs.

Wow thanks for the help Think I should just go to a chevy dealership and grab some T-56 bolts for a 94 F-body? I have no idea where I can get my hands on these bolts. I will follow your recomendation on torque setting too. Thanks again.

Now where can I get those bolts.... hmmmm????

Dealer should be an option; Summit & Jeg's & Thunder Racing etc., your local speed shop, local drive line shop, might also be places to check.

I would suggest some 272, you dont want them feet falling off on ya

Definately get the right bolts, feet are nice to have. Also be a pitty to see a trashed car because of something like that.

There's been some pictures running around on the Net lately of a car that enjoyed a clutch explosion. I'll have to see if I can find them. One look at what happens, and you will never even think to half-*** a clutch again, you can believe that.
