Transmission: T/A has a 5-speed, z28 has a 700-r4, th-350 in the 79' (5 or 6-speed soon), and none in the chevelle
T-5 swap crossmember question
Is there a difference between manual and automatic crossmembers? Or is there a difference between a base models crossmember and a Iroc/GTA crossmember? I've done this swap once before with two base model firebirds. My problem on this swap, a T-5 from a base model firebird, into an iroc, is the crossmembers.
The orignal iroc automatic crossmember has two rubber bushings between the crossmember and a top miniture crossmember thing that the tranny actually attaches to. which would put the back of the tranny about a 1/2 inch higher. I'm thinking this is to make the driveshaft angle better for the irocs lower rear suspension. but i'm not sure as i've never seen this type of crossmember before. All the other ones i've dealt with are basically a flat piece of steel, none have had bushings and two main pieces of steel (trying to give an idea of what i'm dealing with???)
btw both cars are 1985's,
thanks.

i recently swapped a 4 speed for a T5 in my camaro. i had to trace and cut my crossmember to make it fit correctly. also, the T5 sits at an angle so you have to make that work.

you just have one of the ... 'weird' crossmembers
i dont think it makes it sit much higher because i think the bottom peice slopes down more, but im not sure
id just say find the other crossmember but it seems like there less common then i thought for some people

I used the same crossmember from my auto with my T5, it was the flat one piece crossmember.
It looks just like the one on my old 86 Trans Am,
