700r4 info needed

I have a couple of questions about the 700r4. First what hooks up to the 4 prong connector on the transmission?

Second what years are better? I heard something like the pre 88 wasn't any good is this true?

What would be a good shift kit? I want one that will let me really feel the shift.

Finally is there a number somewhere on the transmission so I can identify exactly which tranny I have?

Thanks

Brad

4 prong is lock up wiring
87 1/2 and up is better
b&m is my favorite, most prefer trans go
pass side of the trans, stamped just above the pan is a code used to decipher the info.

thanks for the help

On the lock-up, does it have to be hooked up? If I do what do I hook it too? I cant find anything that even looked like it came from it out of the car the tranny came out of.

Is there anything else I can put into the tranny to try to get it to perform better and last longer? Like a bigger TV valve or the Corvette Servo? What exactly do these things do? Can you even feel a difference?

Also once I get the number from the trans, Where can i go to cypher the number? Is there a list on here?
Thanks again

Brad

Lock up should be hooked up. It is better for the trans and gives 2 or 3 mpg.
There are dozens of things you can do to beef up a 700r4. How much power you make and how much you wish to spend are relative.
Post the code and I will break it down for you.
Be sure that you have a 700r4. 16 bolts hold the pan on. It is rectangular, almost square and does not have any noticable humps or notches in the perimiter of the pan.
