T-56 Shifter question

Hi Guys,
So I just mounted the T-56 to my car, but it seems that the T-56 shifter plate sits back a bit more than the original T-5...is this normal, and if it is, is there a special "shifter" I need to relocate it a bit forward?

I have a 98+ LS1 Type T-56 mating to my 383 (non-LS1 engine). I had to get a 1" adater plate on the transmission (for this type of install) and I am thinking that is why the transmission is pushed back a bit.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tommy

Yes, it's normal. There is no special shifter for this. You must cut back about 2"(maybe more) of the console floor to gain clearance. At least that's what I had to do for my T-56 from an LT1 style GEN II engine. Also most people here usually do an LT1 T-56 swap when mating them to GEN I or GEN II SBCs. Mostly because it's easier, less hassle and fewer custom parts to have.
