how does a converter act when its blown?

i just put in a B&M 2400 converter, it ran good for an hour or so, it seemed like it was stalling and everything, but i was just out cruising around, putting some miles on, and I started slowing down for a stop sign, and the tranny was downshifting and whatnot like usual, then i got to the stop sign and the thing just clonked out. I was like what the hell. started it back up, popped it into gear, and clonked out again. did this a couple times, and realized its not the engine, its the trans. The tranny is snubbing the motor out for whatever reason.

So when i pop it into gear, the converter is not absorbing anything, its like a positive lock throughout the transmission, and it causes the engine to snub right out

is this signs of a blown torque converter or what?

Sounds like your converter isnt unlocking with the brakes or decreased speed.

Check the 3 and 4t gear swithches and the actual lcokup switch(usually the one at fault)

It is possible to collapse the stator into the impeller or to lose a roller clutch in the trans and experience something similiar as well however, but this is usually not the case.

that lock up switch sounds like it would be the culprit. Because i just had a bunch of work done on that, because it didn't have one. but now that i think of it, it does act like the converter is locked solid.

when i got all the work done, he used these connectors, that he thought were really sweet cuz you can disconnect them easily and whatnot, but I didn't think much of them. So they could have came disconnected very easily, I haven't jacked it up to get under it yet.

But if the connectors came undone while the converter was locked, it would stay locked right?

just outta curiousity, what does a converter do when you blow it out? just spin and transfer absolutely no power or what?? or do they seldomly blow out?

They usually dont blow out, they tend to balloon.

Sometimes u spit out vanes and stuff thou.

The most common failures are overun clutches in the trans(same type of effect) and crashing the stator and impeller together. Basically making your car on the stall all the time :-) this happens your 2400 stall basically acts like it locke dup all the time and/or your stall speed just keeps decreasing the worse it gets.

I had one do that to me and I could brake torque iut at a 1000rpms in the driveway :-)

The torque converter clutch is not releasing. This is just one of the problems with B&M torque converters.

When my stock converter blew, it really blew. 6 inch crack in the converter that sounded like a shotgun going off under the car when flooring it in 1st gear. Shredded the plastic inspection cover and made a nice pattern on the road 3 foot wide. This was with the old 305 and stock trans

Typically when convertors let go it stays internal and sends all the nice metal throughout the transmission requiring a total tear down and flush-hope that not your case

Often it typically turns out to be a stator problem and bearings letting go, but many times when that happens the car will still run, but it'll make all sorts of ugly noises at you, schreetch and squeal when the engine reaches a certain rpm. By the sounds of yours it's either electrical (hopefully) or you have severe internal breakdown which will require a new covertor-or have this one cut open and flushed/fixed, and same with the trasmission. Be darn sure to check the fluid for sparklers so you dont do anymore damage than necessary.

the converter is a B&M holeshot 2400. I checked the fluid, looks to be good, didn't see any shavings or anything. which is a good sign

*** I'm hoping this is electrical and not an internal problem...
