Tranny Mount?
I am having T-5 transmission problems. Under accelleration in 1st or 2nd gear, my shifter raises up. Easiest way to explain it is that if you put you hand about an inch or two above the shifter, then hit it, the shift **** will punch up and hit your hand.
Does this mean I need a new tranny mount? Could it be anything else? How hard is it to change a tranny mount? Where can I get one, and what do they cost? Is polyurethane worth the money?
Looking for any information.
Thanks guys!

Well I'm not expert with the T-5, but mine went out on the 700-R4 once. When my mount went out the trans would slap off the tunnel on hard take offs. My console would actually bounce a little. If you really wanted to check, put the car up on jacks/ramps and look at the mount. The Haynes manuals says to check with a Prybar between the case and crossmember. If the mount seperates it's bad.
To remove it's just a few bolts on the mount. Raise the trans a little. My mount fell right out in two pieces. I put the new one in after I jacked up the trans a little more. Bolted it back down I was good to go again.
Autozone or Napa should carry replacement rubber ones. There pretty cheap.
Yes, urethane mounts are nice. I've heard some things about the Energy Suspensions ones in the past. There were a few threads about members that installed them, then developed vibration problems. I don't know if that's been fixed, but I assume so since it was a few years back.
I just put in a regular rubber one from AutoZone I ran it for years, then switched to a Spohn TQ Arm. It takes the Torque Arm off the tailshaft of the transmission and puts it on the crossmember. That helps out with a lot of the abuse.

I just recently installed the energy suspension polyurethane mount and I must say the difference between this mount and the stock one is phenomenal...
My old mount was a pile of crap, when I replaced it, the mount fell to two direct pieces and just to test its quality I held it up and tore it in more pieces with my hands...I installed my poly mount, and the car drives so much better than before....super smooth on cruising, excellent on take offs....it does wonders.
The poly mount is worth the money.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So if I'm reading them correctly, polyurethane is awesome and what I'll probably go with.
If I get Spohn's TQ Arm, then there is no need for his Poly Tranny Mount, right? As it will attach in a different spot and will probably be included with the TQ Arm kit?
Thanks

You still need the trans mount with the Spohn torque arm. The mount for the factory torque arm that bolts to the trans is eliminated though.

Well, I just noticed that the Spohn TQ Arm is almost $400, so that kinda eliminates that possibility.
Back to the original problem, will the Spohn Poly Tranny Mount stop my shifter from moving up and down???
Thanks for the help guys,
KZad

I was just referring to the spohn TQ arm to point out the movement of the TQ arm mount on the tailshaft housing is probably why they break to begin with.
Yes the new mount, if the trans mount is broken. Like I said if you want to test it first, go for it. Then you would know for sure.
