i don't know about the drive being faster than OD thing. In OD your R's drop, which would actually give you more speed due to the fact that you can drag it out longer. but i do know from experience that manually shifting is a bit quicker, well, depending on how you shift and such obviously. i've tried both at the strip out of curiosity, and i've personally pulled better times manually shifting. but as has been said throughout this thread, everyone's cars are different and everyone drives different. as for the OD faster than D thing, many ppl may think D is faster, because it's not often that you can hit OD in the 1/4. but physics will tell you that you'll pull more speed out of OD.

In OD, the car can reach its highest mph. So in that sense, OD is faster. Correct me if I am wrong.
In D the car, at least for me, normally operates in the 2000 to 3000rpm range for regular driving up to about 50 mph, where in OD the car annoyingly rides around 1200 to 1600rpm. I get better fuel economy (about 1 to 3 mpg) when driving in D in the city and OD on highways.

I was doing that d to od back to d thing for a bit
to keep the revs up I wanted to see if it the car
would excelerate faster, it did for awhile...
but the last time I did that on the
highway at around 55 I went from od to d the
tranny made a horrible noise scared me sounded like
it was gonna explode. My converter isnt locking up anymore
no cpu. I am getting a wc t5 soon. anyone want my 700r4
u can have it if you help me take it out. : )

so I have to keep my foot down on the gas when I downshift? Do I just tap it slightly or as if I am normally driving...like a 1/4 throttle...

When I manual shift from OD to D, I give the throttle a steady romp (1/2 to 3/4 throttle) as I shift and I hold it until I feel the trans shift out of 4th (OD). If you dont give it a good amount of throttle, or if you let off the throttle before it shifts, you wil feel the car drag. Play with it and youll get the idea.

I think I am getting slightly better at it, today I matched the revs perfectly going down from OD to D, it was flawless, and today I did a similar matching revs from D to 2nd...

I know how to drive a manual and I can say that the downshift from OD to D that I did today felt just like it should as if it was a manual...

OD may be able to keep it longer, but you get better acceleration in D..Which would be better in the 1/4 mile, so idk if you would say OD is faster..

What if my car idles too high? Should I not be doing this? I don't know how accurate the rpm meter is because it goes past the red line

im not really sure on that..i mean it is possible for it to go past red line..its just not a good thing.. and will blow the engine.
