I do not know how much a trans wieghs but I have put a few in in my day.
Make sure there is no fluid in the trans you are putting in. check and drain torque convertor.
get a piece of 3/4 inch thick plywood that is the same size as the bottom of you trans pan.
center the plywood on the cup of the jack. Must have a 3ton or greater jack.
Put the trans on the plywood. if the car is on jack stands you may have to put the trans on the jack under the car using the middle hump for clearance. This is a good time to call in a favor from a handy friend!
jack it up. have the jack handle facing the rear of the vehicle. You have to align the holes in the sides of the mounting surface with the pins in the mounting surface of the motor.
its gravy from here Tip- when you install the convertor bolts put a washer or two between the converter and the flywheel. This is just something that I do.
Before you do all this remove the driveshaft. remove the four bolts that hold your tailshaft on and remove tailshaft.
buy a new rear seal. if you do not have a seal installer use a 2x4 and lightly tap it in. this is a lot less work than the above procedure

be careful putting washers betweenthe convertor and flywheel as this might push the convertor to far into the pump. too far is not good. it is something i have never done for that very reason.

I dont know it smoothed my trans out a little. I noticed that the convertor comes out quite a bit when you bolt it up to the flywheel.
