Trans Brake not working
Trans Brake not working
I have a TH-350 with a revers manual valve body and a trans brake. I bought the tranny used, with very low miles I was told. I hooked up the wires on the trans brake solenoid I can hear it clicking but it does not do anything. You can take off the dust cap and actually see the plunger moving so I don't know what the problem is with it.
Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? All I have done is install the trans and hook up the wires I have not taken anything apart yet.

You need to pull the tranny down into first gear for the brake to work. It won't work in any other gear.
Since you have a reverse pattern, the shift pattern will be
PRN123
When in first gear, the brake engages reverse at the same time. This locks the tranny in 2 gears and allows you to bring the engine up to the converters stall speed. When the brake is released, the fluid in the reverse circuit is dumped and the car launches forward in first gear.
Does reverse work? Does it shift into all 3 forward gears while moving?

Yes the revers does work and yes it does go into all three gears. I have tryed in every gear it doesnt hold at all. I thought that maybe something came apart in the solenoid and it is not moving the peice in the valve body. Is it just a plunger that moves inside the valve body?

Normally yes. All the solenoid does is pushes a plunger which allows fluid into the reverse curcuit.
When I ran a TH400, I could continually push the transbrake button to see if it was working. The Powerglide's solenoid only pops back out when there's hydraulic pressure pushing it out. I have no idea how the transbrake in a TH350 works.
