s-10 5spd

i saw somwhere on the boards about using a 5spd from a s10 pick up.... what i need to know is if the main shaft splines and length are the same as well as the drive shaft yoke and splines ... bell housing, clutch, shifter and tranny mount are not a issue.how ever gear ratio may be...all of the trannys ive gone through so far didnt really need first gear, so is the first gear in the s10 like the old 4 speed pickups?we used to call it a granny gear... dont really need that... thanks in advance for advice and help....tao

hummm...looks like ill have to do it just to see ... due to cash flow (and a blown v6) when i first got the car i didnt know about the twist in the bell housing and tranny so ive got a normal looking set up (no 15 degree counter clockwise mounting surface)in fact i didnt know about the engine being offset to the passenger side and installed the engine dead center (which is why i had to shim the pass side eng. mount almost a inch)but if it works out ill post the results....if not i wont want to talk about it...lol

I am not sure off the top of my head, but I am sure I saw this over on mys10.net. I can look for you, but I will need to know what year of s10 it is. My 98 uses a 11" clutch disc with a 1.125" shaft and 10 splines. IDK about actual trans length, although I think there are many different length driveshafts. I know my nv3500 will bolt up to your car using my flywheel, clutch, and other stuff. You will just have to take the wire off my truck to hook to an electronic speedo. Hope this helps, and see....an s10 guy does have place here apparently

The case is entirely different... The shifter on a S10 T5 is at the middle, right behind the gears, and the tailshaft is about 6" longer. The Camaro/Firebird T5 has the shifter at the rear. Also there's no provision for a torque arm mount on the S10 transmission.

In other words, its completely different and not worth the trouble.

forgot about that, sorry....when they drop the fbody trans in the s10's, you have to move the shifter farther back. I am sorry, complete lapse of sanity for a moment.
