Rear End PLEASE HELP
Ok here is my problem. I dont have much money left and I am trying to decided which rear end I should get. My choices are a 1982-1992 Posi 3.27 Drum or Disk. or 1998-2002 3.27 or higher. I dodnt care about the newer one been a little wider and having the Tire stick out beacause I was planing on do a 2002 ss wheels or something like that. I realy need to know if the newer one are much better then the 1982-1992 camaros. I know the brakes are but what about the rest. The prices are only 100.00 diference.
same axels, probaby a better carrier. might be an open rear though. see if it has a zexel torsen posi unit in the 4th gen rear.
you will also need a proportioning valve for the rear disk brakes
28 spline axels were introduced in 1989 if i remember corectly.
89+ all have 28 spline axels.
get something like a 3.42 or 3.73....3.27 wont be worth the effort and money in the swap honestly....
i think 3.42 is a decent give take relationship on gas milage and performance.... i have 3.73 and it winds out fairly quickly and you shift a good bit more.....i dont mind it but it would get annoying if it were my daily driver...also ....keep in mind, while in DRIVE at 70 mph the gear ratio is reflected on the speedo...3.73 = 3730 rpm...3.42 = 3420 rpm etc etc.
