Wont go into gear.
OK, yes ive searched and can't find how to fix my problem, so heres the whole story:
The car at times when i stepped softly on the gas would wait until really high rpms until it shifted so it would jerk into gear. I didnt think anything of it b/c it only did it 3 times. The car sat for a couple of weeks because i had to find time to replace the smog pump which the bearing had worn out in. Once I did, the belt was running smoothly and everything looked good. I took it to the gas station to fill it up and on the way there it would only do first and second gear. So i just left it in second on the way there which was only a mile in a 45. If i put it in D or (D) it would shift into third and just rev and i would have to shift it back into 2nd. So I came home, looked on here and thought it would be the TV cable that needed adjusting. Well I tried, and maybe I'm jsut an idiot but it didnt work for me. The only button i saw wasn't shaped like a "D" and was a square that is very hard to push. The cables seem a little loose and sometimes the throttle wont close all the way back and will hang. It seems like the top cable isnt pulling back on it or something. So ultimately I just pulled on the cables and now it wont go into any gear, it just revs.
Now can anyone help me?

TV cable seriously misadjusted or broken or the trans is shot, needing a rebuild.
