I think this is a tranny problem?

I was racing last night and i have a 700R and i was fine 1st and 2nd gear and when i hit 3rd gear the car started spuddering and it acted terrible and bogged almost down but 1st and 2nd were strong. I also thought it could be a timing issue were the timing is off and 1st and 2nd are fine becuase there small gears but 3rd is a long gear so if the timing is off then the car couild do this right?

No it is not the timing.

Not the EGR either.

Let's get past the "noob" blame-everything-on-timing stuff, and apply some logic.

It's fuel delivery.

I'm guessing this is a carb conversion, fuel pump still in the tank?

is it a new or use carb cuz sometimes they are good out of the box and somtimes they need to be jetted down or up. personal experience is that holley's need more work out of the box then edelbrocks

No, it's not "jetting" either.

No, it's not because the carb is "junk".

There might be other problems or imperfections that could be attributed to those things; but they are not the cause of the issue at hand.

It's because the fuel system can't keep up with the rate that the engine drains the fuel from the carb. What happens is, while it's idling or cruising (conditions with relatively low fuel demand), the carb's fuel bowl gets kept full, without too much trouble, by the fuel system; when you punch it in fist, and the engine's fuel demand goes up by a factor of 10 or more, the bowl starts to drain down, as the fuel demand exceeds the fuel supply; all through 1st and 2nd the fuel level in the bowl is getting lower and lower; then about the time you hit third, there's no more fuel there, and the engine starts sputtering and coughing and falls flat on its face, and otherwise acts like it's running out of gas. Because, IT IS.

Leave the carb alone, leave the timing alone, go to the root of the problem, which is, INADEQUATE FUEL DELIVERY.

Until the fuel delivery problem is fixed, NOTHING ELSE will EVER fix this. You could buy youself a $1000 totally worked-up carb from a shop that builds them for professional racers, and your car will STILL fall on its face about the time it hits 3rd gear, if you don't fix the actual problem at hand.

Back to the original question, since we're kind of on a roll with wild guesses here, is the original (electric) fuel pump still in the tank, and you're using a block-mounted mechanical pump to draw through the electric?
