do you necessarily need a clutch housing cover. i know some of the 5 speeds had these but do you need them for a t56?

You don't "need" it, "necessarily", in the sense that the car won't work without it. But it's a REAL GOOD IDEA to have one.

You can re-use your T-5 one. IIRC when I did the swap in my car, I had to drill & tap 2 of the 4 screw holes for it though. Maybe all 4, I don't recall for sure, I'm sofakingdom I probably couldn't have counted them right at the time, much less remembered the number this long. The holes in the T-5 cover don't line up exactly to the holes in the T-56 bell housing. There's bolt bosses in the BH in the right place, just not machined out; all it needed was D&T, and it was all good.

I don't think they are discontinued for the t56. I just ordered one yesterday. I't supposed to come in tomorrow. It was about $7 for the shield and 65 cents each for the 4 screws. I can get the part numbers when I get home.
