could old fluid cause this?
I have a 700r4 in a 88tpi 350. It shifts really hard all the time it is hard to drive in stop and go traffic because even I take my foot off the brakes the car surges forward. I went out the other day are really wamped on it. Trying to clean out the motor. down to bout 5 mph, then floor it through 1,2,3 till bout 85 mph. slow down to 5 mph and do it over again. Did bout 6 time in a row. hard accel hard brake. then drove home normal. and the trans shifted like glass all the way home. next day drove it and it was not as hard shifting, but not great, couple days later it was shifting like poop again. I was wondering id the tyranny fluid is a likely culperate. It is really dark, may be original, but it is full just got the car. The car only had bout 50k miles on it.

u could try it...never hurt. I'd get a bottle of "LUBE GARD" thats the brand. dont get anything else..we've been in the tranny business for over 20 yrs and this is only stuff we found that works. you want the red colored bottle thats the one for GM. Black is for chrysler and green is for ford V fluid applications. from what it sounds theres a possibility theres a valve stickn a little bit. Lube Gard will free it up within a couple days
