TCI streetfighter worth it?

I need a new tranny for my 350, in my 990 firebird. I want an automatic w/ manual valve body. I love that! anyway, i was planning on buying the tci streetfighter for 1300.00 + ship from summit. It's alot of money, but i'm not gonna go through 5 rebuilt stockers. Dose anyone know anything about this one, or have any suggestions?

A great value on a performance transmission.
These TCI StreetFighter transmissions are durable enough to withstand the rigors of even the toughest street machines. They are ideal for engines producing 450 HP with a non-supercharged system. Equipped with a manual/automatic valve body, most units allow you to manually shift the vehicle into each gear change or, by placing it in the drive position, remain fully automatic. In either mode, you get a racetrack shift that bangs through the gears and shaves time off your ETs. When you use the manual gear selection feature, the StreetFighters upshift and downshift right when you move the lever, with no lag or governor override. When you select the normal drive position, they retain positive automatic shifts, for the ease of driving you look for in an automatic transmission.

I have never heard anything bad about TCI/B&M. What seems to be the problem with their stuff? What does pro-built use when they build their tranny's?

I'm looking at tci still because it has a torque converter already installed, pro-built dosen't. I can get tci through summit, too. Is it that pro built is better, but tci is still good, or is tci completely worthless. I'm going to get a th 350 or th 400 instead, overdrive isn't worth $1000.

Any TCI product bought by myself or close friends, failed prematurely. Some immediately. Buy at your own risk.

Buying the right transmission for your needs is important. There is more to it than price and torque converter. Gear ratio of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear are important. If overdrive, 4th also. Power output, driving styles, rear gear, durability, gas milage etc all should factor in. Do as much research as possible before laying down your coin.

If you go with a TH350/400 you will also need:
Longer driveshaft
torque arm mount
speed sensor or converter to generate a signal to go to to ECM/speedometer
trans crossmember

What you will loose:
Overdrive
Fuel mileage
Quiet cabin at cruise speeds
