Thanks.
Thanks.

are you talking just the limited slip differential or ring and pinion also? you've tried www.summitracing.com, right?

Are you talking about a complete rear axle or just the differetial? The differential is the part inside the rear that connects the axle shafts & holds the ring gear. Differentials, ring & pinions, & install kits can be had at 100s of place on the net, including Jegs, Summit, Martel bros., Moser, etc. Complete used rears can be found at salvage yards, Ebay, TGO classifieds, etc. New 12 bolts & 9"s at Moser, Currie, Strange.

I changed the post topic to "I need a new differential for my '91 T/A." I guess it reverted back to the original.
But yes, all I need (that I know of so far ) is the differential, not the gears.

You mean, what's wrong with the differential? Or what happened with the edited post?
With the differential, I guess the tech-guy said there was too much back-lash. He says, "Supposed to be a human-hair's amount of movement or less, but there's 4-human hairs worth of movement".
As for the post, I changed it but it didn't stay.

what was the exact measurement of backlash? you could probably drive it for quite some more time without worrying about it. backlash occurs in your ring and pinion though. the pinion gear is a cone shapped gear with a rod on the end that attaches to your driveshaft. the ring gear is in the shape of a circle with the gears on the side of the circle, not on the top. thats the best i can describe it. its not too common to have backlash in your spider (differential) gears.... you could probably fix the backlash by adjusting the pinion depth and such (there are also shims for the ring gear)

All I know is what they told me, what I wrote above. I wish I could tell you more, as I do not want to spend more than I need too.
Here's maybe something that might help you deduce it, there is a noise whenever I drive it....obviously, right. Buuuuuuut I remember a couple months ago, and even in the last few "burnouts" I only left 1 mark. I know my rear is posi because I have opened it up and saw it. Now is that normal? I don't think so. Even when I leave my apt complex, I turn out and floor it. Only the passenger side makes smoke usually. But when I do a burnout and hold the brakes, both will eventually spin.
I don't know if that tells you anything.

I don't know. I just intalled it 2 months ago and have nothing but problems from it. Eventhough the seller "swore" to me that it's 100%AOK. When I installed it, I added limited-slip additive. I didn't put in the GM stuff. I didn't even know about it honestly. But next time I will.
Now is that and the "backlash" problem the tech told me about on the same part, the differential? Or does it sound like I need a complete diff, gears, and everything else?
From the sound of it, what are my options? If I have any.

Here's a pic of the posi. Not mine of course. If you can reference stuff to me, that would help out. I can understand colors and shapes
