rear question after rebuild

Just rebuilt the rear in my firebird have a question how much slop is expected with axles moving in and out of the carrier after the c -clip is installed I have a good 1/8 inch to a quarter of an inch? is this right?

they move alot but 1/4" seems excessive. if you had it apart you should of inspected the parts for damage or wear right?

JamesC told me to flip the c-clips, so the slightly worn part is on the opposite side. I think I had 1/16" slop or so.
If your c-clips are 1/8" thick or so, (the norm), then theres no point in replacing them.
What about the grooves on the axles? check those?
miss anything when putting it back together? How's your cross pin look?
Cross pin, axle grooves for c-clips, and c-clips themselves basically control your side-side play.

just replaced everything except the carrier
it was a rebuild and unfortunatly tonight I made the mistake of going down a hill and not quite making it over the top with the limited slip started going sideways some gave me a love tap and helped me out.........

I wonder if a posi rear would have been able to grab in that situation?
