95 Formula Rear
I just bought a 95 formula rear from the salvage yard today. It is great physical shape. Disc brakes, posi (don't know gears), and came with lcas and panhard bard (though I don't need stockers). I pulled the cover off and the gears look fresh and clean. The oil was pretty dirty though. I want to find out what gears I have in it first. Do I count the ring teeth and pinion teeth then divide to get the ratio?
If this helps, the numbers on the bottom side of the diff are 26041414 5.
I am working on getting a gear set photo, CarDomain is slow uploading pictures through dial-up (LOL).
I am really thinking of putting some 4.10 gears in and found a set with install kit and rear girdle for 200 new. The guy said they are meant for 98-03 LS1s but will they work with a 95 formula rear? I thought that the 4th gens all had the same specs when it came to axles and stuff. Any help is much appreciated!

This is what I counted: ring gear=41 pinion gear=16
41/16=2.56
Does this sound right? Could it still be a posi unit? When I spin one real the other turns the same way. I am really confused here. My research tells me that the 95 Formula should have 3.42s in the rear. Did I get hosed?
This is really confusing. It says here that 2.56 isn't even an option. What am I doing wrong??
I checked the VIN# and this is what I found:
Made in Canada, GM, Pontiac, F-Body, Formula Transam, 2 door coupe (hatchback), manual belts, 5.7L V8 (LT1) (1993-Present), 1995, St. Therese, Sequence# 213949.
According to the specs of 95 Firebird Formulas it either has 2.73s, 3.23s, or 3.42s. My math is not equating to this.
