will a deep tranny pan fit?

summit has deep transmission pans with fins and new bolts. since my pan gasket is leaking i think i might as well "upgrade". they are said to fit 700R4 but will that frame brace thing right behind the pan be in the way? how much ground clearance will i loose? does anyone have one installed on their car? pics?

thanks

Take a look at your stock pan and if it has scrape marks on it, I will let you draw your own conclusion.

I doubt it. There isn't much benefit to a deep pan to outweigh the lost ground clearance though.

New bolts, a new gasket and a drain plug kit for a stock pan adds up to a lot less than $123.

ok i guess i will get a stock sized pan. i am noticing transmission fluid on that big metal thing that the catalytic converter hanger bolts to (and i think the torque arm bolts to it also) im pissed i didnt get a pic while i had the car up in the air today. its a weird leak because the fluid is comming from one of the bolts...this is too hard to explain, does anyone know what im talking about?

It's probably not actually leaking from the bolt, just dripping from it. Sounds like you could use a new rear seal.

That area is well above the oil pan. The seal is called "transmission case extension housing seal" GM pn 1358899.

EDIT: pn is 8673526 is the seal. The 1358899 is the o-ring for the ext housing to the main case.

i put the derale tranny pan on her forulma 350
no problems what so ever
i like that pan because of the cooling fins to help cool the filter, so i didn't need to mess with a filter spacing, if you don't use a filter spacing, it's sorta useless
i also like the derale one to prevent sloshing of the tranny fluid, sorta baffled.

i did scrape her pan getting out of a storage garage, but, it was a pretty steep drop, the pan doesnt sit lower then the exhuast
but you'd definately want to make sure you dont have a saggy suspension going over speed bumps.

all in all, a worthy mod

no problem
just be leery of the cheaper tranny pans, make sure it has everything

do watch out if you have a lowered car or a TA, since they are slightly lower

get yourself a tranny filter too, good time to change it

I used the derale pan for about 10 years. Good price and quality. Bounced it off speed bumps one too many times. I could not get the drain plug to stop dripping because of the impacts, so I removed it.
