There's no governor in the transmission. There is a speed limiter programmed into the chip. For most TBI's (from '89 on) the cutoff was 108 mph.

Since the TBI cars use an external VSS buffer, you can trick the ECM by following this tech article, Overcoming the speed limiter in TBI equipped F-bodies.

Your other option is reprogramming the chip. If you choose that method, you will be reading a lot Grumpy's posts in the DIY Prom forum. Here's one about the '747 ECM to get you started, Programming 101, the beginning.

All 700R4's have governors. It is the 4L60E's that do not use a governor.

Sorry I phrased my statement incorrectly. I should have said his problem was not the governor in the transmission.

Doesn't the governor in a 700R4 calibrate the shiftpoints?

Yea...the governor controls the WOT shift points, part throttle shift points, etc.

How hard is it to do one? I've been thinking about taking mine out and putting in a 5200rpm vette unit. Thanks.
