Lockwashers on flywheel bolts?

Sorry, may be a dumb question but I'm swapping out an auto for a T-5 and I don't have anything but a very dirty Hanes manual for refferance.
Do the flywhhel bolts require lockwashers?

There are no dumb questions, when it pertains to safety. Not lock washers, but those "star" washers. Make sure you use NEW flywheel bolts, and they will come with them on them, and put a dab of loctite on each one. Alot of people say, "you dont have to add new bolts", but if your there, you might as well. Make sure you torque to specs in a cross pattern.

GM does not use washers. They use a shouldered bolt. The washers are commonly used in aftermarket bolts and surely cannot hurt. Be sure to check that you have enough thread engagement if using washers though.

ARP Bolts also recommend not to use washers. They just recommend using the ARP lube on the underside of the head and on the threads and torque them to 75lbs

If I'm reading my manual (wipe away the grease) correctly, the torque specs are 30lbs. ARP's are that much higher? Or do I have the wrong info?
30 lbs. did seem pretty light to me.

The arp is likely higher because they use no thread sealer and use a very low friction lube. Otherwise, bolts have a torque spec because we are unable to measure bolt stretch. Different bolts require different specs because they require a different stretch. Long story short, follow bolt manufacturers spec.

"I see", said the blind man, to his deaf son! We'll that explains why he has no washers. I knew the aftermarket bolts, like Mr. gasket, had them. did not know about the GMs though.

The 30 ft/lb is for the clutch pressure plate to flywheel bolts.

Flywheel to crankshaft bolts are 74 ft/lb.

Bellhousing to engine block are 35 ft/lb.

These specs are for a V8 from a '92 Helms service manual.

HTH's,

RBob.

I ordered Gm flywheel bolts and they didnt have a flange or washers.

The shorter flexplate bolts I took off did no washers needed.

OEM bolts = blue Loctite & no lockwasher. Torque to 75 ft lbs.
Aftermarket bolts = lockwashers ( if suppied with bolts) & blue Loctite. Torque to 75 ft ls.
