Stupid question regarding lubricating the pilot bushing

Engine: SFI'd 350
Transmission: TKO 500
Axle/Gears: 9-bolt w/ 3.23's
Stupid question regarding lubricating the pilot bushing
How much grease should be used to lubricate it? I basically just stuck my index finger in a tub of high temp grease, whipped out a a blob of splooge, and smeared it around in there. Is this enough to keep it lubed for the life of the car?
