9bolt
Can someone tell me if the 9 bolt rearend is actually good or not because I have heard some people say they are junk and others say they are strong. I know the gears and parts for them are rare and expensive. I have a 9 bolt in my 87 GTA with 3.45 gears. I am just asking is it worth rebuilding that one or finding some other rear end to put in it. I am getting it ready for the LS1 swap. Thanks.

9 bolts are strong.
They take 18psi trans brake launches on TTA's inot the 1.6's without trouble.
It is also a lot stronger than a 10 bolt.(7.5/7 5/8 style)
The biggest issue with them is parts tend to be more expensive and harder to get also.
The cones eat into the case on the posi as well, necesitating replacement of entire posi unit as well if excessive wear is present.
If u have a good one or can get the parts for a good price it is an excellent rear.
It also has bolted in axles vs c-clips that can and do break.
