Making a 1/8th Drag racer. Gears needed..not sure which ones

Hey,

I am turning my car into a 1/8th mile drag racer seeing as thats the only drag racing we have around here. Basically I was thinking of going with 4.11 Gears however I am not sure what to go with. I bought an Auburn Limited Slip from a member of TGO now I just need the gears. I found this set from richmond on DriverFX however I am not sure if they will do the job.

Richmond Gear GEAR 4.10 GM 77-84

Right now my car has the OEM setup which is 2.73 Open Diff. I want to go to Limited Slip 4.11. I am set on the 4.11 just not sure of the difference in carriers and stuff...

any help would be greatly apreciated.

Gear it the same as if you were running 1/4 mile. If geared too low, you'll have too much torque off the line and won't be in a low gear long enough to get a clean shift. For 1/4 mile, you want to be in high gear (not OD) at or just before the finish line. In 1/8 mile you should be shifting into high gear at or just before the 1/8 mile mark.

1/8 and 1/4 mile racing is all over by the 1/8 mile mark. That's where traction and all the shifting is done so if any mistakes are made, they will be in the first 1/8 mile. The last 1/8 mile of a 1/4 mile run is a high gear brute hp pull to the finish.

4.11s should do the trick, but what series carrier is that posi? hopefully its a 3 series or you will have to buy an adapter to make the gears fit or buy the gears that are made to fit a 2 series carrier.

stephen, what ratio are you running? got a 9" in there?

How exactly do I find out what series it is. I bought it used from a member from this board. Is there a way I can look at the POSI and find out?
