best torque converter for under $500
sounds like i'm gonna be buying another torque converter because my B&M holeshot lasted about 50 miles before it went to hell...
I've been looking at the TCI streetfighter, or super streetfighter, but I'm thinking the super streetfighter might be too much. how much stall is too much?
definately not going to get another B&M, my dad used to run all TCI and loved it, the vigilante's are too expensive, and I'm guessing the yanks are too. what would you guys recommend? i've been looking at mostly the mainstream ones, but is there any other good companies out there making good converters?

I considered 2 brands, though haven't bought one yet. I looked at SLP, they have some higher than stock, but not too high converters, that were reasonable last time i checked, and I think are manufactured by a good converter shop (yank, or vig?). And through pace or scoggin dickey (I forget) hughes converters. Never heard anything bad, heard a few positive things.

edge converter!! they sell for 525, but well worth it. hughes would be good also but a good converter from them built to your specs will cost around 460. I think hughes has a 90 day warrranty where as edge has a full year, fully covered warranty. you won't be disappointed. A lot of guys on here use them, as well as a lot of the 4th gens, and grand nationals, and vettes. think the web site is edgeracingconverters.com

The Edge 9.5-inch 2600 stall converter in my '92 is awesome and less expensive than their higher-priced competitors. Do some searches, Edge has the best reputation and referrals here. You can get cheaper converters, but not a better one...

TCI is the way to go for a TH350 on the cheap. otherwise Coan, or Edge, or find a local builder who does track cars

i have a 700R4, so the TCI is in the 450 range..
i looked at those edge's, they sound pretty sweet, does everybody have good things to say about them?
it looks like they are 525, and you get any stall speed you want? what should i go with? i was thinking like 3200 maybe?

i'm running 3600 in my car with a 242/252 duration .510/.520 lift cam it's a solid lifter though so take away a little duration due to valve lash.

I only have 1 bad thing to say about Edge converters...I don't have one in my current car yet
The 9.5" Edge is just about the best mid-pricerange converter on the market.

go to ebay and search edge. bid on the converter for the 700 r4 instead of buying it from the buy it now. reserve met is sometimes lower than buy it now. you might get it cheaper! worth trying.

i checked it out, they had like 7 converters on there, but 4 were buy it now only's, and the other 3 were auctions/buy it now, but the 3 that were regular auctions were everything except 700r4's...but I'll keep my eye out..

Of the 5 tci converters I have used, all failed quickly. The first one I bought, the rest were warrantee replacements. 3 were not balanced and had to be removed immediately. Because of this I started using a small, family owned local company. They had build them to whatever I want and the quality is first rate. I have not paid more than $300 for a 12 inch converter. They also build 10 inch versions, but are not priced as cheap as Edge.

alright cool. It sounds like edge is the way to go then. I'm selling a car on ebay right now, and the buyer has to send me 500 bucks within 48 hours for a down payment sorta speak. So i think i'm just going to leave that money in paypal and buy an edge off ebay. Of course I have to rip into the tranny to make sure this is my problem. But i'm pretty sure it is
but quick question, I will still get a warrany from edge if i get it off ebay right? because the dealer on there is like an online powerseller/dealer, so its basically like buying it through a dealer am I right? it says full 1 year warranty from edge, but you all knwo how that goes...

I ordered a Fuddle. I have read only great things about them on the ls1 boards. Paid $400 US for a 9.5".
Now I am just waiting to actually receive it and install, but if you do the research I did, I think Fuddle will be a contender so I decided to take a chance on him.
Search ls1tech.com and see what others are saying
