Tranny Problems. Torque convertor won't lock up.

Long story short, I put a new motor and tranny in my 87 TA last year. All fresh and rebuilt. The torque convertor is also fresh. I'm having trouble with the torque convertor not locking up. I put a jumper wire into the ALDL to lock up the convertor, and it works(locks up)....but I would really like some advice on how to correct the lock-up problem(without have the jumper wire). ANY and ALL advice on where to begin looking and checking would give me a fresh start on this annoying malfunction. If you know of a website or link to another thread here on TGO that I could read, that would also help me understand what to look for or look at?

well usually on a cc carb car that is caused by the computer not switching from open loop to closed loop operation. i dunno if its the same for TPI or not but u might want to check your engine sensors taht control this operation, esp. the coolant temp sensor because those tend to break off

I'm checking his tips too!.....Its gotta be something really simple, so please somebody help point me in the right direction!!!! What controls the TQ lock-up ? And why would it no work?

Worked on the car today with no luck. All wiring looks good. I suppose I will try and find a Computor and prom to see if that changes anything. I'm surprised with 35,000 members and nobody knows anything about this? I must be special I guess.
