confused about gear swaps

background: i want to swap my 3.08 gears for 3.73's. i thought i read that all you need to do to swap from one to the other was change the carrier.

what happened today: went out looking for a series 3 carrier at the junkyard, went to 3 junkyards and got 3 stories on how to do the swap. 1st:change the carrier. 2nd: find 3.73 gears that came out of an f-body and keep your carrier. 3rd: get a different pinion bearing.

now i'm really confused. the gears i have are out of a blazer as far as i know.

what do i really need to do??? a little help would be greatly appreciated!

you need a gear set to match your carrier series ,or a shim to make a 3 series gear set work on a 2 series carrier. changing the pinion bearing and nother else won't work and i'd stop listening to and going to who ever told you that. if you're looking in junk yards you'd be way ahead to buy the complete rear end.

already have the gears, they are for a series 3 i believe. we had all the spacers on that go on the outside of the carrier on one side to try to get lash somewhere near close but no luck. so i either need a spacer or a series 3 carrier, and nothing else funny but the gears? where can i get the spacer? i checked jegs and the just had one that only said "gm 7.5" 10 bolt spacer", and summit didn't have any for the 7.5
Thanks!!
