Torque Converter?
Torque Converter?
I'm new to these boards, but they look like a friendly place, so i thought i would start off with a question. I'm driving a 1986 T/A with the stock 305 carb's engine. I have a th700r4 transmission, and in the near future plan on uping the engine to a 350. Now i was wondering what the best torque converter for the mildly modded 305/350? How difficult are they to install? Are they worth the money? Any help would be great, I'd really appreciate any input on the different brands.

Car: cleanest '86 sport coupe around!!
Engine: 355ci twin 66mm turbos on e85
Transmission: built rmvb th400 w/ t-brake
Axle/Gears: 3.23
we need more info on the motor for a good recomendation...specs on cam, heads, intake, etc.
Its literally a stock 305. The only thing that i have changed on the car is the exhaust system and just minor upgrades like spark plugs and cap and rotor. The timing chain is being set this week with a new thrust bushing in and a new harmonic balancer is going on, but nothing fancy. What im looking to do is get something that i can install on the 305 and work now, but also install on the 350 when i get one.

If you are simply looking for something with good seat of the pants, and not very converned with 1/4 mile et, something in the 2000-2200 range will work now and give you room to grow. If you are looking for the"perfect" converter. Wait unit your combo is finalized. At least on paper.

"You get what you pay for" is especially true with torque converters. Just something to keep in mind. If it were me, I would give Andre at Edge Racing Converters a call. He's arguably the best converter guy there is.

Listen to Midnightcamaro, don't buy a cheap convertor. Buy a good convertor like TCI, Coan, Edge something good. But don't waste your money on the 305. Build your 350 and then fine a convertor to match the engine.
