Having one heck of a time with this snap ring, any tips? ATSG book says to compress the springs then use a snap ring plier to remove the snap ring. Easier said than done. I've got 4 or 5 different kind of snap ring pliers, just about every one has some reason why it just won't work. Closest I have is the replaceable tip style craftsman (with the needle like ends that are supposed to be used with the snap rings that have holes....Every other one either doesn't fit (too big on the tip end), or doesn't open up wide enough. Problem is that theres only 0.1" of ring visible and the "opening" that you get to use the snap ring pliers on is about 3/4"!

How the heck are you supposed to get this outta there??!

 

It is a bear. No easy way. After the first 12 times you do it, it gets easier.

OK, thanks for the tips there Anybody happen to know what brand/model/size snap ring pliers they use on this retaining ring? I'm on my 5th pair and they are all either too big to fit the groove or don't open wide enough to effect the retaining ring. My original pair seems like it could do it, but its the round pin style, and it slips a lot.

 

I do not use snap ring pliers. I use 2 small hook tools to do it. I snag the left side and holt it firm. Then I gook the other side and "twang it" loose. When I reinstall it, I use my finger tips only. Hurts like heck, but works easily.

 

Seems better than the two screwdriver method I was planning I'll see if I can rig something today.
