TH-400 Slipping/Leaking

I drove my firebird today and added 6 qts of fluid because it was slipping and there was a pool of fluid under the car that i had been cleaning up all the time.

Anyways added the fluid the tranny still feels sloppy when it shifts and it is leaking as i go down the road makeing a cloud of smoke off my exhaust pipes, it also feels like it wont shift into second unless i floor the car and it revs high i drove a whopping 20 miles and used half a tank of gas. This tranny only has 500 miles on it and of course the shop that did the work is out of business. Any fixes you can think of. I swear this car hates me i fix one thing and it brakes. Oh it is also makeing a whineing sound.

I drove it again today and noticed the vacuume modulator hose is broken could that be my problem? It will not shift into second gear unless i floor the car and at higher RPM's it feels like it is revving but has no power then i floor it and it will shift hard.

The vacuum modulator is why it shifts late and hard, at least.

That is a relif on one part. Somone said if the Vacuume modulator is not getting any vacuume that it will leak fluid is that true?

The modulator basically tells the tranny when to shift.

If its got no vacume supply it will always think your going WOT (when floored you have little no no vac) and as stated above will cause it to only shift at the max RPM.

As for the fluid leak...

Does it continue to leak over long periods of time (pan gasket) or only while its running (pump/output seal)

It leaks more when i am driving the car. When it is sitting it will just make a pool of fluid under the car over night

my turbo 400 leaks at the front seal, and used to leak on the dipstick, the dipstick is the easiest fix right off the bat, just need to replace some o rings if thats what is leaking. I would have to agree the broken vacuum line is a problem. Try using some brake line combined with vacuum hose, its what i did and its a lot more durable. Another thing... whats the fluid say with the dipstick... im pretty sure my 400 didn't hold 6 quarts of oil... then again i may be wrong, its been 8 months since i last drove or even checked mine.

ps. the dipstick leak will leak a lot while running and just dribble a little when off. A seal will **** like a race horse when running and drip when off.

Any ideas on the whineing sound I am hearing from the tranny?
