700r4 from 90 Iroc into 86 iroc?
700r4 from 90 Iroc into 86 iroc?
I just need to know if there are any problems I need to look out for in such a swap. A friend of mine is going to install a T56 into his Iroc and is selling the 700r4 out of his 90 iroc. I have a 86 iroc and thought it might be a good opportunity to swap out my transmission.
Are there any issues with such a swap? What would I have to change? Is the rear main seal compatible, would I have issues with the VSS?
I am running MAP and A 730 ECM in my 86 camaro now. Would I just enable optical VSS instead of magnetic (or something along those lines)??
Any advice much appreciated.

It's not really a swap. They are the same, externally.
Just take all the speedo stuff out of yours and put it in the other. Piece of cake.

So basically the electonic pieces that mount onto the transmission take them from my 86 and mount them onto the 90 and I should be sweet.
What is your opinon is it a worth while swap. Is the 90 model trans better? I have a feeling my 86 might be slipping or not changing correctly even though I have done everything I can with it.

With the 700, a later model is usually more desirable, because they were constantly upgrading things during its prodcution life.
If your current transmission slips, then it's not long for the world; and you're gonna have to do something soon. So replacing it with the other might be as good an option as any.
