Auto Trans Advice
My auto trans will only change up if I come off the throttle, and then it changes hard (feels like a manual shift).
I've been told that the TV cable should only go tight at WOT and should adjust it accordingly, my cable goes tight way before then which suggests that's what's wrong.
However if I slacken it or unhook it from the TB the gearbox will not change out of first.
I've also noticed today that it's not holding the car on Park.
I've changed the fluid n filter, it looks fine and the level is correct.
Any ideas or is it just knackered?
Thanks
Matthew

the only 700r4's that will shift at WOT from the factory are corvettes, irocs with the 5.7, and police models. all others are prevented by valves in the valve body. different companies make kits to correct this problem.
the no shift when you unhook or loosen the tv cable is because of a factory safety feature in the form of a check ball and rod connected to the tv plunger. without the tv cable being hooked up, this checkball is not pushed out of place by the rod being actuated by the tv plunger assembly. it was to ensure the tv cable was used to keep the tranny from burning up.

That is only for the 3-4 shift, 1-2-3 should still shift at WOT
As for the TV cable, adjust as per the thousands of threads and tech article and millions of websites. a misadjusted TV cable will burn up a tranny in a real hurry.

there is also the possibility of a stretched cable or a stuck tv valve in hte tranny causing the line pressure to stay too high which will not allow it to shift out of first.
