Trans verification

I have searched this topic and am still confused. I have an 83 camaro with a 355 that I inherited and im wanting to learn more about the car. When I received the car the motor was torn apart to be rebuild and it had forged pistons and a 4bolt main, so I know the motor has had some work done and I am wanting to know exactly what trans I am dealing with. this is what I can visibly see on the trans.

14-51-065-903
13-52-066-909
Basic 1
/D//38169

Dont know if these are right but if anybody can help it would be greatly appretiated.

you might want to give us a hint, like A4 or M5. if it's an auto trans a pic of the pan would help, or you could do a search. i know i moved some drawings of pans from here to the FAQ board to ID trans.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
I can tell by looking at those #s, that it's a T-5.

Go here and put the 13 # into the tag decoder; and see what it tells you.

You don't have any numbers of any value, just the casting #s off a couple of the aluminum pieces.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that /D//.... is stamped on a little machined place. If so, it's really xDL13.... or xDN13..... depending on whether the car it came out of was was built in Van Nuys (L) or Norwood (N). That's the last 10 of the VIN. D is 83, so it might be the original trans for the car, if the number matches the VIN. Usually with stick cars, the one that's in it is the original one; so it's nothing unusual or "rare" or any of that.

Beyond that, we can't tell anything; and regardless, even if we knew EVERYTHING there was to know about it, all we could tell you is, it's a stock T-5 out of one of these cars.

...so we're looking at a possibly "built" motor in front of a non-WC T5? I can see that parts trail from here.......

non - "World Class". The older T5's(pre WC) had torrington bearings(flat, thrust type) on the cluster shaft and the main shaft gears just rode on the shaft. - The WC trans had timken bearings(cone-type) on the cluster shaft and had needle bearings between the mainshaft and the drive gears.
- all this means the WC's were MUCH stronger. note: T5's aren't all that strong one way or the other, just ask my last 3, including the g-force straight cut...
