Help please, I have had my new ride ($500 '89 RS) a couple of days and am trying to spruce up a few things and have questions before my shop manual arrives.

My car has been converted to the "Cyberdyne" digital dash and one of the things that doesn't work is the speedo. I am told by the previous owner that the "short piece of speedo cable that goes into the tranny was broken" to me that sounds like a typical "drive key" I have dealt with them on other things but don't know on this. I don't know if this car originall had a mechanical speedo and a drive box on the tranny that would actually use something like this or not.

If someone could tell me what my car should have it would help alot!

An '89 Camaro will have a cable driven speedometer.

can you tell me about the connection to the tranny ? I was under the impression it was a gear box that plugged into the side ...with a worm gea driving off of a ring gear. The person that installed the digital dash made mention of a short piece of speedo cable ... I dont know what is broken right now???
