3rd gen pinion yoke observation
Just removed my 10 bolt and put a 9 bolt BW rear in my IROC. I'm kind of ashamed I never noticed this before -
When bolting the u-joint into the pinion yoke on the 9 bolt I was concerned to notice there is nothing (but feel and observation) to center the caps in the yoke when tightening the strap bolts down. Having very good memory of multiple u-joint changes in my full sized diesel powered blazer I just knew there were little "tabs" in the yoke to insure the u-joint caps stay centered in the yoke. When I crawled out from under the car to check the removed 10 bolt I saw it didn't have the tabs either. I replaced the transmission in Feb. 2005 and removed the drive shaft to put new u-joints in it and never noticed the lack of alignment tabs on the 10 bolt at that time. The tabs seem like such a simple (and smart) idea, why did GM stop putting them on the yokes?
