i just put a t-56 in my 89 iroc i was woundering what was the best place to get a vss that converts electronic to mechanical i read a lot of threads on here and none gave a site to find one. I want to use my stock speedo so autometer crap is out of the question.

all i need is some websites that has something to plug into the connector that i can hook up my mechanical speedo to or something like that. After all the t-56 conversions you would think someone would know a few sites.

So ur saying the T56 has a VSS in it?? If so your going to have to pull the tail piece and put a Mech speed gear in it and than plug ur speedo cable in..

abbott makes a black box that converts el signal to a cable. costs about $300 . visit : Cable X...Electronic Speed Signal to Mechanical Speedometer Adapter .I just bought one myself.

I believe painless has one that cost a lot less, I want to say like $50 to $100 depending on if you run a MAF or SD

Think for just a second what you're asking for.

You want a device whose input is pulses, and whose output is mechanical rotation.

There's a word for devices like that. We call them "electric motors".

It is not a trivial matter to make such a thing. You've got to take in this pulse train, and then spin a motor at a precisely controlled speed. But the motor has to move at least somewhat smoothly, so that the speedo doesn't bounce and jerk at low speeds. Not as easy as taking in 40,000 pulses per mile and putting out 2,000 pulses per mile, like the cheaper boxes do. That's the difference between the Abbott Cable-X, as opposed to the Dakota Digital and those others.

Keep in mind too, the total marketplace for such a thing, is REAL REAL SMALL. Like, I'd be surprised if 1000 of those Abbott things have ever been built.

The T-56 problem is that the VSS is DIRECTLY IN LINE WITH the center of the transmission main shaft. However, the T-5 one, as well as all cable drives throughout history, is OFFSET FROM the main shaft, so that it can be driven by a worm gear. The Jags That Run product is a modification to the extension housing that fills in the stock hole, and removes some obstructions, and adds a hole in the right place for the worm drive system.

So, you have a choice between spending $300 on the "electric motor" type thing, or spending $300 on the JTR piece. Now I don't know about you, but for me, the choice was pretty clear when I was putting a T-56 in my car. I could either add this funky little "electric motor" thing that is an additional point of failure and that the company might discontinue at any time due to lack of demand so I wouldn't be able to replace it; or I could get the chunk of aluminum modified so that regular stock stuff from my car would all work. Didn't take me very long to make that decision.

I'd recommend strongly that you consider the JTR approach instead of the outboard transducer thing.

Engine: Um, Chevy small-block
Transmission: One that shifts
Axle/Gears: Got those too...
I am interested in knowing how many people have used this black box and what kind of success they have had...... anyone?
