More th350 questions...
I searched, and the few wuestions that were identical to mine didn't seem to get answered, so here we go again...
Current: The original 3 speed auto from my 82, which is a 200.
Am getting tommorrow: Th350.
From what I've gathered, I need a new torque arm, ok. Is there also a conversion kit or something, or is that what people meant when the said the conversion piece?
Also, I have gathered there are 2 styles of 350, a short and long output? Or, something is short on one, long on the other.
IO'm basicly getting the tranny for free almost new (relative has his hot-rod truck read ended, crashed, etc.). So, I won't be not getting it either way, but it sounds like short is better for our application? And if I get the long version, is it still useable? Really hope so..
Thanks

The possible reason people have not answered is because it has been covered quite well many times. I don't know the answer because I have never done it. The advance search is your friend regarding this. I have seen some great info here over the years.

I am swapping my 700r4 for a th350. I am using the 9" tail shaft with the stock crossmember and driveshaft. You will have to buy a torque arm bracket adapter. Jegs and summit have them. Depending on the length of the trans you get and the one you have, you may need a new driveshaft.
If you're going through the trouble, you really should go ahead and get a tq arm that mounts to a crossmember, not the trans.
- yes, a long tailshaft trans could be used, but would require a custom driveshaft.

I swapped a TH350 into my 89 IROC-Z using the Hurst kit and a Spohn crossmember. The deal is the TH350 does not have a mount for the stock torque arm. So you either gotta use one of those kits (which will include a bracket you attach to the tailshaft) or as mentioned you get a aftermarket torque arm that connects to the crossmember. The two companies that make kits are B&M and Hurst. If the car is an early car with the 200C then the crossmember should be bolt in re-usable, and the driveshaft should be the correct length for a short tail TH350. If the car is a 700R4 equiped car then the crossmember will not be bolt in re-usable (but can be modified to work with the brackets included in those kits), and the driveshaft should be the correct length for a long tail TH350. If it turns out you get a long tail TH350 and the stock driveshaft from the 82 is too long, it should be easy to find a shorter 700R4 driveshaft from the junkyards. Its when its the other way around doing a 700R4 car w/ short tail TH350 that it can get tough to find the right driveshaft (either get lucky at the yard or custom). In those situations the 700R4 tailshaft onto TH350 conversion is probably the best way to go, then they can re-use the 700R4 driveshaft and the torque arm mount is there.
